THE PROJECT

I-DEMO – Improving DEstination Management Offer through game-based strategies is a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, KA220 – Cooperation Partnerships in Vocational Education and Training (VET). The project duration is 30 months (2024 – 2027).

I-DEMO aims to support those working in tourism in EU countries in acquiring and developing key skills related to game-based tourism, to promote digital innovation and improve the performance of tourism organizations.

The objectives of the I-DEMO project are:

  • to enhance the specific skills of DMO (Destination Management Organization) professionals and VET students related to creative game-based tourism;
  • to design an innovative and targeted online training course on 'Game-based Tourism', offered through a digital platform, integrating various sectoral and transversal skills, including digital, entrepreneurial, and soft skills;
  • to provide DMO professionals and VET students with a Toolkit to apply gamification and creativity strategies in planning innovative and inclusive tourism offers and services. The toolkit will include guidelines and a Virtual Map of European best practices related to creative game-based tourism;
  • to increase the potential for replicability of the project results beyond the partners' destinations.

I-DEMO aims to achieve the following results:

Skills profile for Game-Based Tourism

Definition of a set of key skills for DMO professionals, based on partners' research and their consolidated experience in needs analysis and training.

Professional skills related to creative game-based tourism will be studied and analyzed, identifying training gaps and defining a profile based on 10 fundamental skills.

Online course on 'Game-based Tourism'

Provision of professional training for current and future tourism professionals, focused on digital skills, soft skills, and sector-specific skills.

The course will be designed based on the results of the skills analysis and the identified profile, integrating sectoral and transversal skills.

I-DEMO Toolkit

Creation of guidelines and a Virtual Map of best practices spread across the EU, to apply gamification strategies in planning innovative and inclusive tourism offers. An Hackathon with 40 proposals from 8 European destinations will also be organized.

The implementation of activities aimed at a wide audience and the production of tools available beyond the duration of the project will contribute to the transferability and sustainability of the results.

Project dissemination campaign

Organization of webinars, promotional materials, a manual of existing best practices and success stories in digital transition and/or gamification in tourism, to disseminate the project results in the European tourism sector.

Online webinars, multiplier events, networking activities, and a communication campaign will be organized to maximize the impact and sustainability of the project.
